The role:

If you’re going to spend a few weeks locuming in January, Albany is the perfect place to call home. We’re looking for an experienced sonographer from 11 January to 5 February 2027, with a great mix of hospital and private clinic work, minimum 30-minute appointments, approachable radiologists and a team that is genuinely flexible about making the role work for the right person. Prefer hospital? Great. Prefer more clinic? They can work with that too. There’s even the potential for a four-day week, plus accommodation and travel support, so bring your partner, bring the kids and potentially even bring the dog. Vascular skills are desirable, on-call is required and you’re looking at around $100+ per hour. And if January doesn’t work, there are further locum dates available from mid-March through to July 2027.

Position: Locum General Sonographer – hospital and private clinic
Hourly pay rate: Locum rates on offer, $100 per hour plus super DOE and client approval. Penalty rates will apply for on call / recalls. 
Travel and vehicle: Available – negotiated based on your present location and individual needs, subject to client approval.
Accommodation: offered and is family and pet friendly as needed.

Four-day weeks are possible, including longer days if the sonographer wants full-time hours. There’s also flexibility around days off and long weekends.

Get the best of both worlds, with the mix tailored around the sonographer’s strengths and preferences rather than a rigid roster.
Minimum 30-minute appointments
No high-volume, rushed lists. Appointments are scheduled for at least 30 minutes, with autonomy over inpatient workflow.
Bring the family, partner or even the dog
Accommodation and travel support are available, with flexibility for candidates travelling with family or pets. There may also be opportunities for sonographer/radiographer couples.
Support without being micromanaged
An incredible sonographer will be onsite, there’s handover, approachable radiologists and flexibility around individual skill sets. The locum is expected to be experienced and independent, but won’t simply be left to manage everything alone.

The Essentials for This Role:

• Experienced general sonographer, comfortable working independently across hospital and clinic settings.
• Confident with inpatient scanning, arterial vascular ultrasound and routine after-hours presentations, including assessment of mastitis.
• Able to prioritise and manage an inpatient list, recognise clinical limitations and escalate appropriately.
  Willing to share the hospital on-call roster, with the final arrangement negotiated around the successful candidate.
• Paediatric scanning, broader breast experience and light checking of an advanced trainee’s work are helpful, not essential. You will not be expected to take on primary clinical supervision.
